History
I am a skilled deckhand
My adventure started in 2017. I left South Africa after school and ventured overseas with a group of friends to lands and cultures I was not familiar with. I found myself in some strange circumstances, travelled through uncomfortable temperatures, and faced physical exhaustion hiking up Annapurna, in Nepal. Along the way, we signed up for WWOOF (WorldWide Opportunities on Organic Farms), a programme to sustain us while we travelled. We were required to work for a farmer in exchange for a place to sleep and food to eat.
Prior to this trip, I had never set foot in another land before, and once I was bitten by the travel bug, I was absolutely hooked. After returning to South Africa, I immediately rearranged my life to pursue yachting as a deckhand. I enjoy testing my body’s physical limitations and once I realised I enjoyed travelling too, what better way to do that than in this industry. In the three years since, I have visited 19 different countries and worked on countless boats, gaining more knowledge maturity, skill, and experience than I ever would have behind a desk.
Hobbies
- I am an avid guitar player and singer. I really enjoy music and my guitar accompanies me on my travels.
- I enjoy being physically active and healthy. So I try to feed myself relatively well and exercise quite often when I get the opportunity.
- I really love nature and as a result I’ve become quite the gardener. People say I have too many succulents and that they are hard to kill so ergo im not so good. Skrew em they alive.
- I’d like to think I have artistic traits as I enjoy being creative in multiple ways from music to sketching.
About
I strive for excellence in my work on a daily basis and I am always keen on learning more.
I am a very meticulous individual who works hard to complete a task. Attention to detail is important, and this does not only apply to work but for me is a way of life. “Half the effort equals double the time”. My father used to tell me quite often that if I was going to do something, I was to do it right the first time.

I must admit that the apple does not fall too far from the tree and I have adopted this philosophy easily. I am a very keen student, always motivated to improve and learn from my mistakes. Someday, I would like to mentor others and pass on the knowledge and experience I have gained. Knowledge is power, and teamwork makes the dream work.
