How It Began

My adventure began in 2017 in South Africa after leaving school and deciding to venture overseas with a group of friends to explore new lands and cultures. I found myself in strange circumstances, travelled through uncomfortable temperatures, and faced physical exhaustion while hiking up Annapurna in Nepal. This experience is what pushed me to pursue yachting and continue to test my physical limitations and enjoy the benefits of travel, through my career. In the five years since beginning my yachting career, I have visited 19 different countries and worked on countless boats learning about crew dynamic, responsibility and how to face pressure on a daily basis; all of this without ever stepping foot behind a desk.I strive for excellence in my work and am always keen on learning more.

My father told me quite often that “half the effort equals double the time.” I have translated this saying into every aspect of my life, especially yachting. Adopting this philosophy has instilled in me the value of doing something right the first time.

As a bosun, I am the backbone of any ship, responsible for ensuring smooth operations and maintaining the vessel’s integrity. From supervising deck activities to overseeing the maintenance of equipment and gear, my attention to detail is unwavering. I take pride in keeping a well-oiled ship, ensuring the safety of the assets and, most importantly, the crew.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working on a diverse array of vessels, from 20 meters to 100 meter sleek modern yachts. With each new adventure, I’ve honed my skills in knot tying, splicing, and general seamanship, making me a reliable and resourceful bosun in any nautical setting. I believe my motivation to improve and always learn from my mistakes is what makes me a great teacher and student. I look forward to continuing to mentor others and pass on the knowledge and experience that I have gained thus far. Knowledge is power, and teamwork makes the dream work.
